Friedrich Müller und sein Sehnsuchtsort: Rom

Bad Kreuznach
on 15.11.2025 at 15:00 o'clock

Born in Bad Kreuznach, the painter and poet Friedrich Müller (1749-1825) lived in Rome for almost 50 years, which became his second home. Rome captivated him like many artists and intellectuals of his time. Strangely, however, he did not regain the creative power of his youth as either a painter or a poet during his time there. How did he live in Rome, what was his social environment like, and why did the city attract so many intellectuals of the 18th and 19th centuries so magically? These questions will be addressed in a lecture as part of the autumn conference organized by the Association for Local History. Admission is free. There will also be an opportunity to visit the exhibition: "Painter Müller and the Understanding of Beauty and Greatness."
