The interest in the ferry connection between Guntersblum and the Kühkopf, which was discontinued in 2012 due to expiring contracts with a private ferry operator, is very high, as shown by the fact-finding days held in recent years. In order to enable the ferry traffic in the future and thus revive the connection between the nature reserve Kühkopf-Knoblochsaue (largest remaining floodplain of the northern Upper Rhine and UNESCO European Reserve), an electric ferry is to be purchased, which is well usable for hikers, cyclists and persons with reduced mobility is.

The nature reserve is with over 60 kilometers of cycling and hiking trails, the environmental education center "Treasure Island Kühkopf", the estate Guntershausen, various nature trails and an exceptional nature, a very attractive and family-friendly recreational area and tourist magnet. On the other hand, day trippers from the neighboring metropolitan areas (Rhein-Main and Rhein-Neckar) via Kühkopf also like to take advantage of the wine tourism offers of the entire Rheinterrasse on the Rheinhessen side.

Contents and goals:

  • Purchase of a novel electric ferry for passenger transport (emission-free, maintenance-free, long service life, reliable, cost-effective, simple operation)
  • Barrier-free ferry service (including bow flap, ferry ramp)
  • Regular and reliable ferry service between Guntersblum and the island of Kühkopf from April to October at weekends, holidays and bridging days
  • Restoration of the cycle path connection between the Hessian Ried and Rheinhessen and mutual connection to the Geopark Bergstraße / Odenwald and to the cycle path Rheinterrassenroute or the hiking trail Rheinterrassenweg
  • Promotion of soft tourism
