Big national exhibiton in the Andreasstift museum

"Here I stand- conscience and protest- 1521 to 2021"

17.04-31.10.21

In 2021 is the 500th anniversary of the memory of the Reichstag in Worms in 1521. The national exhibiton "Here I stand. Conscience and protest- 1521 to 2021" takes the anniversary of the refusal of revocation of Martin Luther on the Reichstag in Worms as an occasion to show and critically question the development history of the "freedom of conscience and protest" using numerous examples to the present day from the 17th of April to the 31st of October 2021.

The centre of the exhibition are initially the appearance of Martin Luther in Worms and its meaning as well as the myth which emerged promptly with the historical event and develops tremendous dynamics until today. In the second part the exhibiton focuses on the topic "freedom of conscience and protest" itself, that is with as well as without the reference to Luther's work in historical contexts of the last 5000 years. Because of that the national exhibition presents, besides Martin Luther, other important personalities that bravely and resolutely stood upo for their ideals and quite often paid with their lives because of their civil courage since the 16th century until now. The disputatious author Olympe de Gouges or the young Sophie Scholl still capivate us today with their brave example and are presentted in a fascinating way in the special exhibiton using  exponats, documents and key situations in their lives. Protagonists for equality and freedom like Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela, Georg Büchner, the protagonists of the peacefuul revolution that lead to the reunion of Germany and a lot more are also represented. Numerous events as well as an extensive museum educational odder for different groups of age accompany the exhibition. The frame program also thematises among others the challenges of the present in coherence with the freedom of conscience- also to meet today's developments.
