Route guidance

The 11.8 km Hiwweltour Westerberg starts at the Selz in Großwinternheim. From here you can already take a first look at Westerhaus Castle, which lies in the middle of the vineyards and is a stage destination of this hike.

But first, the Hiwweltour along the leisurely rippling Selz and through the nature reserve Gartenwiese. Lush riverbank hedges, rolling meadows with numerous native meadow flowers and fruit trees line the trail on the first few kilometers. You pass Schwabenheim, which can be visited by means of access.

With the climb up to the Westerberg you leave Selz, garden meadow and fruit behind and now dive into the vineyard. The Walter Zoth hut invites you shortly after the junction of the road to Bubenheim for a rest, before even now the last meters of hiworld tour are in front of you.

Once you have reached the Westerberg, the hike takes you comfortably along vineyards and fields. The flat hiking trail as well as a small section through the winter grove allow the hiker to breathe deeply and recharge your batteries for the last section of the hi -world tour.

The next stage destination is said Schloss Westerhaus. Paddocks and stables reveal that Schloss Westerhaus is not only a winery, but also a stud that breeds racehorses. When the castle's large wooden gate is open, the wine shop is open and you can taste a glass of wine from the vines that grow along the Hiwweltour Westerberg.

From now on the path leads downhill. Grandiose panoramic views in the direction of Ingelheim, Großwinternheim and Schwabenheim accompany the descent back to Selztal. The trail also passes through rare historic ravines created by centuries of livestock and agricultural use, as well as run-off rainwater.

Once in the valley, you have a refreshment stop in the owl mill. The last section along the Selz, back to the starting point of the Hiwweltour, is lined with shady trees and numerous paddocks. In addition, you can once again look at Westerhaus Castle in the heights of the vineyard, which has now once been up and down again.
