„From the shadows of the antique – Moguntia Metropolis Germaniae“

On the occasion of the large national exhibition "The Emperors and the Pillars of their Power", the Isis and Mater Magna Sanctuary is also dedicated to early and high medieval urban development. In a small presentation entitled "From the Shadow of Antiquity - Mogontia Metropolis Germaniae", new archaeological findings are shown. The starting point is an ancient well on the grounds of the sanctuary, which was still in use in Carolingian times. This and other small finds are used to tell the story of the continued use of ancient structures and Mainz's settlement history in the Middle Ages.
