The wine must come from a limited location with optimal growth conditions. Over a longer period of time, wines originating from this location must have exhibited a sustained high level of maturity. As grape varieties in Rheinhessen only Riesling and Pinot Noir are allowed. The yield is limited to a maximum of 50 hl / ha. The harvest may only be done selectively by hand, must weight must be at least in the late reading range.
The care of the vineyards and the yield level are monitored in each vineyard throughout the vegetation to the harvest. Before and after bottling, a tasting will be held by an examination board. The marketing of VDP's major crops will not take place until the first weekend in September of the year following the harvest.
