13.03.2019 Cyclists and hikers start the season together
This year, the starting signal for hikers and cyclists will be given for the first time in a joint event on 7th April. The host is the active wine village Flonheim. The opening of the outdoor season in Flonheim offers a diverse program for those who like to be outdoors and want to actively experience Rheinhessen. The main event will take place on the Bürgerwiese at the Adelberghalle in Flonheim. A varied program turns the Bürgerwiese into a meeting place for those who enjoy hiking, cycling and enjoying. In addition, there will also be an activity program that includes the regional hiking and biking trails.
Individual hikes can start directly at the Bürgerwiese - the Hiwweltour "Aulheimer Tal" leads directly past it. On the hiking trail at the "Hiwwelrast" at the observation tower Bornheim drinks and snacks as well as children's program are offered. Guided hikes on the Hiwweltour Aulheimer Tal are conducted at fixed times by the Kultur- und Weinbotschaftern and a Wegpaten. Guests have the choice between the complete round of about 13 km and a short, 5 km long variant.
Outdoor products and e-bikes can be tested on the central fairground. Anyone who dares can prove their own skill on a bicycle course. For the deserved breather a whole hammock landscape is offered. Guests can relax and enjoy one of the food and wine beaches. Among others, the Flonheim winemakers from Wine Flow are there. Musically, the whole thing is framed by the trombone choir Flonheim and the singer-songwriter "Urban Fox" from Mainz.
The local tourist information office provides advice and information on holiday and leisure tips for the region.
Another highlight is the inauguration of the sculpture "The Cloud" by the Eberhard & Barbara Linke Foundation on the Bürgerwiese and the opportunity to participate in guided tours at fixed times through the Foundation's Sculpture Park.
In total, 18 companies, institutions and initiatives support the event.
The event is a joint project of Rheinhessen-Touristik and the local community Flonheim. Further cooperation partners are EWR AG and outdoor trader McTREK.
