Just a few steps to the Oppenheim train station, there is a concentrated load of culture with the Katharinenkirche, the Kellerlabyrinth and the Altstadt. About the Gautor and dirt roads to reach the Rheinterrassenweg, the first climax heading for the ruin Landskrone.
Extensive vineyards open the view of Schwabsburg with the striking castle tower and on Nierstein and the Rhine. Nierstein impresses especially with the ensemble around the St. Martin's Church and the market square (from here on the way to the station), before continuing to the mighty mountain church. From there, the view back to the city is worthwhile, before the sea of vines calls again.
Immediately the deep red colored ground falls on, which comes to light particularly in the steep slope. No doubt: this is the famous "Red Slope", whose sandstones offer the local wine a special terroir.
Passing great vantage points (especially from the Brudersberg) follow the slope to Nackenheim, whose striking church greets St. Gereon from afar. In the center of Nackenheim, an access road to the station turns off, while the RheinTerrassenWeg uses the steep stairs up to the church. From there you can quickly reach the vineyards, where grandiose panoramic views make your heart beat faster.
Soon Bodenheim comes into view, which is initially surrounded in a wide arc. From the northern access road you approach the town center and you will be welcomed by the mighty walls of Stiftswingert. Past the tourist information center and numerous lavishly restored farmhouses, you reach the historic center, where the old town hall and the Knebelsche Hof are worth seeing. The access road ends after 1.3 km at Bodenheim train station.
The Rheinterrassenweg uses mostly paved paths between Oppenheim and Bodenheim, but the Naturwegpassagen are usually well accessible. The path offers little shade and protection from the elements. Please pay attention to customized clothing. On the way you can stop in Nierstein and Nackenheim.
