The Verbandsgemeinde Wonnegau lies with its eleven local churches in the southern Rheinhessen. The landscape is agricultural and like almost everywhere in Rheinhessen, viticulture is in the foreground. 3,232 ha, which is more than a third of the total area, are covered with vines. This makes it the largest winegrowing municipality in Rheinhessen and one of the largest in Rhineland-Palatinate.
The wine is also omnipresent in the local communities. A filled calendar of events with farm and the various wine festivals makes this also experienceable. Especially the grape blossom festival in Westhofen, the Gundersheim red wine brandy at the Höllenbrand and the wine festival on the Pilgrims' Trail in Bechtheim attract many visitors to the region each year. Of course, the largest city in Wonnegau - the Nibelungen city of Worms, with the Nibelungen Festival - succeeds. The second city in the region - Osthofen - celebrates the Rheinhessen EXCELLENT wine festival "Osthofener Weinmeile" on the weekend of June 23rd to 25th.
The two cities also connect a stage of the RheinTerrassenWeg, which scores here with its focus as a cultural-historical hiking trail.
