Philipp Kämmerer of Worms gen. Von Dalberg determined the core Romanesque, located near the castle village church to the residence and Holy Sepulcher. The conversion began around 1470 under the direction of Jacob von Landshut. With this master of the Lower Bavarian school, a new trend-setting design language came to Rheinhessen. The nave received an extraordinary net vault. The east side of the aisles was closed with elegant, baldachin-like chapel installations. In the newly built family chapel on the south aisle Philipp was buried in 1492 and his descendants until the 19th century. In 1904, the choir of the church had to be relocated because of the addition of a sweeping transept. Despite this drastic change, the architecture of the Bavarian hut with its effective sections of space has remained visible on the smallest floor plan.
