In the middle of the 19th century, the Palatine master mason Franz Ostermayer developed stables with cross vaults, which were mainly built in Rheinhessen. This admittedly not cheap construction reduced the danger of then frequent house fires. A few years ago, the historic value of these rooms was rediscovered and began to be prepared as cozy wine taverns, ostrich farms or restaurants, as here in Bermersheim and in some other communities of the WeinArtLand.
