The former village moat, which in the Middle Ages served the village with its high ramparts as a flood ditch and as a village fortification, is now a 1.3 km long circular route. The path is lined with lots of old trees and is protected as a natural monument. But not only the Effenkranz, the entire townscape with its houses made of natural stone and the village wall ,according to the Hague Convention, has been protected as a cultural asset since 1988. Other sights line the way, e.g. the Dalberg Tower, which was built around 1500 as a residential and defense tower. The tower was included in the village fortifications and has five upper floors in addition to the ground floor. Also worth seeing is the Dinotherium Museum, which is located in the town hall. Original finds from the Urrhein near Eppelsheim, around 10 million years old, and casts of rare fossils are exhibited in the museum. The center of the museum is the cast of the upper skull recovered in 1835 from a dinotherium. The original is on display in the Natural History Museum in London.
