When Offstein became Hessian in 1816, there were 3 elementary schools here: - the Reformed school; from 1587 to 1822, if the teaching position was vacant, the schoolchildren had to go to Heppenheim a.d.W. to the local Reformed school. - the Lutheran school; from 1710 to 1822, it was financed by the parish at its own expense. - the Catholic school The Reformed and Lutheran schools were combined in 1822 to form the Lutheran school. In 1829, all schools, without distinction of denomination, were united to form the "Christian Community School". This consisted of two departments: the first school, which was run by a Protestant teacher, and the second school, which was run by a Catholic teacher. According to a report by Mayor Kaege dated 16 April 1824, lessons were held in the old town hall. He suggested the erection of a schoolhouse or the establishment of the Lutheran church (today's Protestant church) as a schoolhouse. This did not come about, the hall of the Heilmann inn (Römer, Bahnhofstr. 2) was made into a classroom as a substitute. The population of Offstein continued to grow, and a functional school building in keeping with the times had to be built. At the end of 1890, the building at Neu-Offsteiner Straße 24 was constructed under the direction of the master mason Johann Schneider lll. from Offstein. This school building had 3 classrooms and a teacher's service flat. Three teachers taught the children. The "old school" from 1890 was renovated by the municipality as a residential building and rented out. It was sold in 2010. Based on the report by teacher Fritz Klinger "1200 Years Offstein" from 1971. Compiled by Erich Weber
