Old Town and Salt Market At the heart of the New Town is the salt market (Salzmarkt). This area between the meat and tanning districts was where the salt needed by both tanners and butchers as well as all households was traded until and into the 19th century. Today, the Salzmarkt is the New Town’s “dining out” district and is home to Bad Kreuznach’s oldest inn, the Krone (The Crown).
