This archaeological presentation area is divided into two levels. On the lower level there is a once underground water basin from the Carolingian era. On the intermediate level, which corresponds to the walking level of the 8th century, an incision in the ground allows one to see the exposed supply line of the basin.

In the past, the basin was mistakenly called "Karlsbad". draws. In fact, it was related to a seven kilo meter long long-distance water pipeline running underground from Heidesheim the Wackernheimer Tal led to the Kaiserpfalz. The canal was made of broken bricks and lined with a waterproof mortar. That Basin clarified the water brought in from the long-distance water pipeline, which blocked up here so that suspended particles could settle.

For a long time, the long-distance water pipeline was considered due to its design features as a Roman building, recent scientific research confirmed, however, that the line comes from the Carolingian era. In order to it is a rare monument in the history of technology that the tradition of Engineering achievements from Roman antiquity into the early Middle Ages is documented.
