Michelle Willis recently caused a stir with her excellent album “Just one voice”, not only because rock and folk legends like David Crosby (Crosby, Stills & Nash) and Michael McDonald (Doobie Brothers) took part, but above all because of her strongly emotional songs , which are so rich in harmonies, deep lyrics and complex grooves. This is accompanied by a warm, expressive voice. David Crosby describes Willis with these words: “One of my favorite singers... simply amazing... fluid, powerful, graceful... such a good composer... a soulful, intense, deep musician and bandleader who swings like she does .” Your life depended on it. British-born Michelle Willis, who grew up in Canada, now lives in NYC and has an impressive resume. For years she has regularly toured with the funk jazz band Snarky Puppy as a special guest, played with Iggy Pop and is a permanent member of the Becca Stevens Band. Michelle studied jazz piano at Humber College in Toronto and then turned to folk and pop songwriting, drawing inspiration from musical icons such as Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, Stevie Wonder, Carole King, Donny Hathaway, CSNY, Ray Charles , Jimmy Webb, Rufus Wainwright and the Beatles inspire. All of these influences are noticeable and yet there is always a certain timeless independence and modernity in their songs.
