The Rheinhessen village Stadecken-Elsheim is located about 15 km southwest of the state capital Mainz and is the starting point and destination of the Hiwweltour Stadecker Warte. Not far from the historic Burg Stadecken, on the trail parking lot of the tennis center, begins the 9.7 km long hike, which first leads along the road for a short distance before turning into the beautiful nature.
It goes past the Old Cemetery of Hedesheim, one of the oldest burial places in Rheinhessen, and past paddocks, one crosses fields and a small spring forest. After the first ascent, the rest area "Auf dem Ermel" is reached, which offers a wonderful view of the Selz valley and a comfortable seating opportunity for hikers.
The route continues along the edge of the forest, through grain fields and finally you find yourself in the middle of the vineyards. Behind every corner hide new beautiful views of surrounding villages like Nieder-Olm or Saulheim. Both the Wingertshaus Schindegaul and a few meters later the long table of wine invite you to take a rest. Here you can enjoy the lunch break while enjoying the view over Rheinhessen and the surrounding vineyards.
Immediately below the table is the first terroir soil profile of this Hiworld tour. The calcareous sandstone profile and the accompanying information board provide information about the geology of the region and its impact on winegrowing. The trail continues through the idyllic vineyards in the direction of Stadecker Warte, which can be viewed with a short detour from close.
The second terroir soil profile of this Hiwweltour shows the Tonmergelboden of the Stadecker Spitzberg and gives again a great geological insight. The adjacent pergola offers a cozy rest stop.
The last ascent of the hike leads to the large pavilion in the middle of Wingert. Up here you will be rewarded with plenty of fresh air and a great 360-degree panoramic view over the vineyards down to the Selztal.
From now on, the route leads downhill, through wide meadows and past grazing flocks of sheep. The last highlight of the Hiwweltour Stadecker Warte is the renatured Saubach, surrounded by billowing grasses and reeds. He leads the hiker on the last few meters back to Stadecken-Elsheim.
