Alzey charms with its manageable, but lovingly restored downtown and numerous attractions, all of which can be reached via a short walk. Pulsating center of the town is the Rossmarkt with the Rossmarktbrunnen.

Visitors to Alzey can expect a lovingly restored downtown with many half-timbered houses, restaurants, cafes and shops. Anyone wandering through Alzey will discover numerous sights that tell of the city's eventful history.

The foundations of a former Roman fort testify to the first historical significance of the city. The Alzeyer Castle, the Burggrafiat and the Obermarkt with Nikolaikirche of importance as administrative and commercial city in later times.

Even today, the legendary figure "Volker von Alzey" from the Nibelungenlied plays an important role. The noble knight, who also performed as a minstrel at the court of the Burgundians in Worms, had his home in Alzey. That Alzey still reveres his famous citizen is shown in many places in the city.

A good overview of the history of Alzey is provided by the Museum Alzey. It is one of the great regional history museums in Rhineland-Palatinate and offers on three floors an insight into 30 million years of contemporary history.
