Spectacular fireworks-illuminated castles

Rhine in flames in Bingen

Fire and water do not normally harmonise with each other. But in "Rhine in Flames", magnificent fireworks meet romantic river scenes and unfold an unforgettable spectacle in the Upper Middle Rhine Valley. Every first Saturday in July, Bingen am Rhein invites you to enjoy the summer spectacle from a boat or from the shore.

A ship tour is the most beautiful and most comfortable kind to experience the traditional event 'Rhine in flames' with its seven fireworks and numerous illuminations. You will set off in the early evening and firstly drive down the Rhine through the romantic UNESCO world heritage 'Oberes Mittelrheintal'. Narrow shore strips, vine-covered steep slopes and castles shrouded in legend made the landscape popular. After a dinner together on board and with nightfall around 50 ships form up on the height of the small village Trechtingshausen to a festively illuminated convoi that now drives up the Rhine. Admire the splendid huge fireworks, 'burning' castles and more illuminated sights from the upper deck. The musically underlined ending firework in Bingen and Rüdesheim markes the highlight and at the same time the end of the evening.

As an alternative you can enjoy the fireworks in Bingen and the lively hustle and bustle at the Rhine from the cultural shore. A diverse program on land qith wine stalls, gastronomy and live music ensures an exuberant mood for the whole weekend.
