The Botanical Garden of Johannes Gutenberg University is a scientific garden. Its aim is to represent as wide a spectrum of plant diversity (mosses, ferns, and flowering plants) as possible and to contribute to the research and preservation of this diversity. Regionally, the garden is committed to the preservation of rare plants in Rhineland-Palatinate. By cultivating endangered species and explaining their importance, it seeks to contribute to the protection of their habitats. At the national level, the garden is involved in the Association of Botanical Gardens. Additionally, it is part of the global network of botanical gardens united in BGCI (Botanic Gardens Conservation International).
