The Botanical Garden of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz is a scientific institution that showcases the diversity of the plant world – from mosses and ferns to seed plants – and contributes to their research and conservation. A particular focus is on the protection of rare and endangered plant species in Rhineland-Palatinate, which the garden supports through targeted cultivation and communication of their ecological value.
Furthermore, the Botanical Garden is connected both nationally and internationally. It is engaged in the Association of Botanical Gardens and is part of the global network Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI), allowing it to participate in regional research and nature conservation projects.
