The Botanical Garden of Johannes Gutenberg University is a scientific garden. Its aim is to represent as broad a spectrum as possible of the diversity of plants (mosses, ferns and seed plants) and to contribute to the research and conservation of this diversity. Regionally, the garden supports the preservation of the rare plants of Rhineland-Palatinate. Through the culture of threatened species and the explanation of their importance, he tries to contribute to the protection of their habitats. At the national level, the garden is involved in the Association of Botanical Gardens. It is also part of the global network of botanical gardens, which are combined in the BGCI (Botanic Gardens Conservation International).
