A special connection characterizes the coexistence in Mommenheim: As in many Rheinhessen towns, the Catholic and Protestant churches stand directly next to each other. This immediate neighborhood is a reflection of a vibrant ecumenism, which holds a high value here.
The history of the Church of St. Martin dates back a long way. In 2019, the community celebrated the 300th anniversary of its church.
The Catholic Church of St. Martin was built in 1719 in the style of rural Baroque. The high altar was created in 1767 for the old Mainz Capuchin monastery and was brought to Mommenheim after its secularization by Napoleon.
