The Command Center

This is one of the nine Wingertsheisjer, commissioned by Unterfauth Hirschel in 1766. It houses the command center of the Wingertschütz.

On the stairs, you will find the year 1977, seemingly the year of renovation. During this time, only the roof was completely plastered. To keep the rubble stone wall visible, the joints were filled with cement.

Interesting Facts:

The Vineyard Protection - Protecting the Grapes from Bird Damage

Every year, when the first grapes ripen in autumn, the winemakers are confronted with uninvited guests that can cause significant damage in the vineyards. Large flocks of starlings, which can consist of more than a million individual birds, then invade the vineyards and strip large areas bare in a short time.

Therefore, the “Wingertsschütz” is active in the vineyards in autumn. Armed with a whistle, blank-firing pistol, and rockets, he used to patrol the vineyards with a few helpers, making noise to scare away the birds wherever they were sighted. Today, modern protection against bird damage is largely automatic. “Shooting devices” are set up that produce a loud bang. These devices can be powered by acetylene or propane. The control of these devices is possible via radio or a timer that triggers the desired bang.

History / Stories / Anecdotes:

In this heisje, Mr. Ahl commands for 6-8 weeks in autumn. For winemakers, hikers, and readers, he always has a story, a wine, or, when it's cold, something clear for warmth. Because of the treats, he is especially popular with the dogs.
The year 1977 was inscribed in the concrete stairs.
