The town hall building was constructed in 1851/52. The roof turret contained the fire bell, which warned of fire danger. On the ground floor were the equipment for extinguishing fires. The entrance to the pump room was located on the west side.
Previously, on the site of the town hall stood the Schöffenhaus, which was already mentioned in 1394 as a notable two-story building with an attached bakery. For the year 1508, a blacksmith shop, leaning to the north, is also documented. The community blacksmith with stables was abandoned in the middle of the 19th century.
At the Schöffenhaus, members of the Ingelheim Imperial Court, to which the municipality of Wackernheim also belonged, held sessions. The court day in Wackernheim was Wednesday. However, the court did not meet weekly. From the period of 1471 to 1501, the court records in the so-called "Haderbuch" are still preserved today. For minor offenses, the wrongdoers were imprisoned in the "Betzenstube" on the ground floor.
By the way: The Schultheiß of Wackernheim (chairman of the Schöffengericht) from 1469 to 1484 was the notoriously combative nobleman Emmerich von Engelstadt. He lived with his wife Agnes in Wackernheim and was very wealthy.
