Ensheim had a parish church at the time of the introduction of the Reformation. The church, having been repaired several times and also rebuilt twice in the following period, still serves its purpose today. The first renovation of the church took place in 1722. The renovation proved necessary because the ship of the church had become dilapidated and the entire house of worship was no longer sufficient for the "growing population." The church was enlarged during this occasion by renovating the nave and simultaneously restored. The second renovation took place in 1830. It was limited to the choir of the church. In the 100 years that have passed since this choir renovation, the church has undergone several repairs, among which the restorations of 1875 and 1890 deserve mention.
