Evangelische Kirche, Alte Johanneskirche

Surrounded by shady trees, the Old Johanneskirche, the oldest preserved building in the district of Ebernburg and indeed the entire city, stands in the cemetery. The whitewashed church was built before the year 1200 and was first mentioned in writing in 1212. Its location between the hill of Ebernburg and the massive porphyry masses of the Rotenfels gives the place a particularly romantic aura. The church was part of the city wall, which is why it was called a fortified church. The marked feature is the pyramid-shaped roof of the square tower. Inside the tower hang three bells, the oldest of which was cast in 1429. The interior of the church is characterized by the ornate coffered ceiling and the blue pulpit. At the end of the east-facing church, one looks at a stained glass window featuring a crucifixion scene.

First mentioned in 1212.

With its 20 m high tower (13th century) with a pyramid-shaped stone roof and the nave (12th century), it is considered one of the oldest Romanesque monuments in the area. Bell from 1429.

Inside the church are grave slabs of the Sickinger.

On the cemetery by the church, grave stones have been preserved since the 18th century. The fortified church was renovated in 2004.
