Dorn-Dürkheim is known beyond regional borders due to the archaeological excavations north of the village, during which numerous finds from the Miocene were made in the 70s and 80s. These finds are now located in the Senckenberg Museum in Frankfurt am Main. In memory of the excavations, the "Evolution Column" was erected nearby in 2009, donated by the artist couple Ribbeck, who live in the village. Here, one can enjoy a small picnic with a beautiful view.
