Fire Department Equipment House Schwabenheim – a Piece of Fire Department History
In the middle of Schwabenheim, there is a special gem: the historic fire department equipment house. From 1896 to 1981, it served as the central self-protection facility of the town. Schwabenheim was among the first communities in the region to establish its own fire department for the protection of the population.
Still striking today is the distinctive "tower," which once served to dry hoses and equipment. Equally defining for the streetscape are the two large doors through which the fire engines used to depart.
The building is a charming relic of bygone times – an example of early population and fire protection, but also a piece of living local history. Anyone strolling through Schwabenheim should definitely take a short stop here: The fire department equipment house is a small but fine architectural monument and tells of the long tradition of civic engagement.
