Since 1999, there has been the market breakfast of the Mainz winemakers. The idea was simple and remains relevant to this day: After shopping at the weekly market, a place should be created where people come together over bread rolls, sausages, and wine. In the meantime, the market breakfast has developed into a success story that is known far beyond the city limits.
Due to construction work at Liebfrauenplatz, the market breakfast currently takes place at three locations. At Fischtorplatz, you are right by the Rhine, Tritonplatz is located between Gutenbergplatz and Staatstheater, and at Schillerplatz, the drinks are served around the Fastnachtsbrunnen. Each location features a different Mainz winery.
On sunny Saturdays, it can quickly get crowded. It's best to come a little earlier and bring something to eat from the weekly market. Maybe you'll meet some familiar faces. By the end of the morning, you might know a few more.
