The former fortification was first mentioned in 1354 and consisted of a tower-armed wall, six fortified gates, moats, and an earthwork. The walkways (Letzen) once encircled the entire settlement. Remnants of the wall can still be seen today on the street "An der Letze." It bears various inscriptions about destruction and reconstruction. There is also the powder tower, the last preserved defense tower.
