Discover the fascinating St. Martin's Church and its historic church garden in the heart of Nierstein. St. Martin's Church and its church garden are completely enclosed by a medieval defensive wall. The gate and tower at the Fronhof form the most striking entrance to St. Martin's Church and its garden, inviting visitors to take a stroll through the church garden, rest on one of the benches, pause for a moment, and reflect.
The Romanesque choir tower from the 12th century is the oldest surviving part of the church. It has been altered several times, raised by a gabled storey in 1563 and supplemented by an idiosyncratic spire in 1896. The interior of the church was last renovated in 1973/74 and then again in 2010 after a smouldering fire.
In memory of those who fell in the First World War, the Protestant parish erected a memorial stone in the church garden after 1918. This was restored during the renovation of the church garden.
