Protestant Parish Church of St. Johann, former pilgrimage church

First mentioned in 1339, the High Gothic Protestant parish church of St. Johann (former pilgrimage church) is one of the most important village churches in Rhine-Hesse.

St. John's Church is a so-called three-nave pseudo-basilica, whose central nave is somewhat higher than the side naves and has no window openings of its own. The simple and elegant stepped hall from the second half of the 14th century is an imposing building from the "High Gothic" period. Five different murals adorn the choir, chancel and aisle and give reference to the donors, the Counts of Sponheim-Kreuznach.

It is located in the middle of the church square in St. Johann and is connected to the Rheinhessen Jacob's Pilgrimage Route. The High Gothic building can be visited by appointment or during the day at weekends.
