The bronze sculpture represents, in an idealized form, a worker in the Gundersheim limestone quarries, which operated until the 1950s. Typical are crowbars, smocks, nailed shoes and the 'Batschkapp'. The sculpture was realized by the Alzey sculptor Volker Schäfer with donations from Gundersheim citizens.
