Former inn "Zur Krone" (Mainzer Straße 40)
The two-story rubble stone building was constructed around 1871. The former gate passage of the late classicist townhouse is now a public passage.
There are initial records of the development of today's Mainzer Straße from the second half of the 14th century, initially focusing on the section between the small market and the town hall square (today François-Lachenal-Platz).
From the 17th to the early 19th century, this street section was divided into "Untergasse" and "Mittelweg" or "Mittelwacht." East of the town hall square, the "Obergasse" began.
As building materials, limestone from quarries on the Mainz mountain, construction wood from the Ingelheimer forest, and bricks from the local brick factory were used.
