Within the quarry "Ölberg," a diverse dry grassland landscape has developed – a hotspot of biodiversity. Rare plant species that have adapted to the dry, nutrient-poor environment grow here, and numerous endangered animal species also feel at home in this special habitat.
In addition to the diverse wildlife and plant life, there are also fascinating rocks to discover in the area: The striking rhyolite formations in the quarry consist of volcanic rock and sometimes exhibit an astonishingly regular pattern with hexagonal columns – a real eye-catcher.
