From the 1st century AD until at least the middle of the 4th century, a luxurious palace villa stood in the Selztal northwest of Mauchenheim, with a footprint of about 2,000 square meters. Only the foundations remain, and they have been outlined using concrete thresholds.
Selected rooms featuring magnificent mosaics, wall paintings, and four fictional residents are presented as an augmented reality experience.
With the help of the "Palace Villa Mauchenheim" app, 3D reconstructions of the building and videos of the host, his steward's wife, the cook, and a slave can be downloaded onto devices. When oriented on-site using the floor plan, 360-degree panoramas of the building and its surroundings open up, allowing you to enter the reception hall, dining room, kitchen, and a barn. There, you can find the videos of the individuals as well as additional information to read and listen to.
