Tuesday is market day in the center of Nieder-Olm: flowers, game, jam, mustard and chili paste, fish, cheese, ham, bread, marinated Mediterranean delicacies, and of course fruits and vegetables. Numerous vendors offer a variety of treats every Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. & until 7:00 p.m. at the evening market in the square between the town halls. And the citizens of the city gratefully accept the offerings, often combining it with a visit to the service evening of the VG administration or to one of the surrounding shops in the city center. The atmosphere in the square is quite special, everywhere you can sample, there are food stalls for small and big hunger in between, as well as a good glass of wine to go with it – a matter of course in a city right in the heart of Rheinhessen, the largest wine-growing region in Germany. By the way, the wine stand at the market serves as an ideal contact and information exchange for new residents, long-time locals, and visitors, as the square has developed over time into the meeting point in the town of 10,000 inhabitants.
