A text-music program against racism
It is the legacy of Martin Luther King to stand up against all forms of discrimination and racism everywhere and always – here and now, just as 60 years ago in the USA. The Basta Theater portrays in its scenic music program the moving path of the Peace Prize laureate – from the beginnings of the nonviolent resistance of the civil rights movement in the mid-1950s to King's assassination in 1968. And again and again, there are cross-references to our situation here in Germany, where far-right politicians openly promote and plan the deportation of migrants. The program of the Basta Theater utilizes original quotes from Martin Luther King, short scenes, as well as recordings of the famous speech "I have a Dream." The content is commented on by live-performed songs, originating from King's companions such as Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, or Nina Simone, but also from the Basta Theater's own pen.
