Bingen is also a place of wine history! While there are good sources for viticulture in Roman times in Rheinhessen, some information is also known about Celtic (Greek) viticulture. Geological history was written by the Nahe: It is responsible for slate deposits alongside the typical yellow sandstone of Rheinhessen. The wine trade in Bingen has great historical significance for Rheinhessen: large cellars have written history: names like Goldener Oktober and Amselfelder are famous predecessors of the international brand Black Tower.
