Time travel on the Ur-Rhine – Trail trekking amidst fossils, natural treasures, and wine enjoyment.
We embark on an exciting journey through millions of years deep into the heart of Rheinhessen, starting at the Eppelsheim Museum. There, we encounter the oldest "inhabitant" of the town – a spectacular fossil find that made international headlines.
Subsequently, the tour continues along paved and grassy paths through the sea of vines to the excavation site and through a nearby nature reserve. Today, this area impresses with its rich flora and fauna – but it was used quite differently in the past.
Back in Eppelsheim, we explore the historic "Effenkranz". Participants are welcomed with a sparkling wine reception before we continue trekking – past listed lime kilns, which strikingly remind us of the former crafts and working worlds of past centuries.
The crowning conclusion is a wine tasting featuring selected regional wines, accompanied by a small snack.
The starting point is at the sports field, Albert-Schweitzer-Str., Eppelsheim
