Erwin Kreim: Was KI (noch) nicht weiß

Mainz am Rhein
on 20.05.2026 from 18:30 to 20:00 o'clock

Dr. Erwin Kreim presents his research on the development of our modern standard language. The scribes of the Mainz Reich Chancellery in the early 16th century play an outstanding role in this.

Before the destruction of the chancellery building during the battles of 1793, the archival materials were rescued to Aschaffenburg and are now located in the State Archives in Vienna. These early documents not only influenced Luther's writings but also the works of the so-called "Mainz Reconciliation Theologians."

In addition to the Reich Chancellery, the archive of the Imperial Chamber Court, which shaped the language throughout the empire, was also under the jurisdiction of the Archbishop of Mainz. Finally, Gutenberg's invention and the Schöffer printing house significantly contributed to the dissemination of a unified language.

These bubbling sources of the New High German language in Mainz will be visualized and presented tactilely in the lecture. Dr. rer.pol. Erwin Kreim has worked for over 50 years in and for banks. He has also been researching the development of written communication for just as long. His collection of letter-writing books with 500 volumes from six centuries is now part of the "hidden treasures of the Gutenberg Museum." In recent years, his interest has been focused on Gutenberg research. Erwin Kreim publishes books and articles and regularly gives lectures. A long-standing member of the Mainz Library Society, he has lived in Mainz with his family since 1967.
