Movie Night "Samia"

As part of the series "Always Thursdays," the film "Samia," which tells the touching life story of Somali athlete Samia Yusuf Omar, will be shown.

Mogadishu, 2000: Nine-year-old Samia loves to run and effortlessly leaves everyone behind in her daily races to school. Her big dream is to participate in the annual city run and one day represent Somalia as the fastest woman at the Olympic Games.

While her mother is worried about the dangers posed by Islamist patrols, Samia receives support from her father, who promises her real running shoes for a victory. As the restrictions on women become increasingly severe in the following years, Samia resorts to nighttime training on an abandoned sports field. Together with her best friend Ali, who supports her as a coach, she remains undeterred and continues to fight for her dream.
