“All right now,” the anthem of Free! 1970-1971 reached 5th place in the German charts, 2nd place in its home country UK, and 4th place in the US Billboard 100; there, the follow-up band Bad Company even shot straight to 1st place in 1975!
On vocals is Paul Rodgers, who enchanted generations of singers, musicians, and music lovers with his blend of blues, rock, and soul.
AND THERE’S NO TRIBUTE FOR THAT?
Free Rodgers & Co. are starting to put this injustice right. Ignited by the blues-rock of the 60s and 70s, the band is set to revive these great songs, many of which almost everyone can sing along to, on stages in Germany and Europe. And what a band!
Wolfgang Terne has played in the past with Bobby Kimball from Toto, Sister Sledge, and German artists like Thomas Anders and Max Mutzke. Fascinated by the music he grew up with, he names Paul Rodgers as one of his main influences as a singer.
Nico Schliemann is a guitar hero himself in these parts. His guitar work has been relied upon by Glasperlenspiel, Maite Kelly, Jini Meyer from Luxuslärm, and even Beatrice Egli. He has absorbed the early heroes like morning air; alongside Hendrix and Page, he loves the sounds of Paul Kossoff and Mick Ralphs.
Franco Zeleny started on bass when he heard the driving grooves of rhythm & soul, which later merged with blues into blues rock. As a child of the 60s, like Wolfgang, he has known this music since early youth and loves to play these beats live.
Oliver Schmandke is known from the SAT1 show The Tribute, where he became a favorite of juror and Maffay and Lindenberg drummer Bertram Engel, who is also one of Oli’s greatest role models. Like Engel, Oliver is captivated by the music of the 60s and loves to play the grooves that get people on their feet.
