Burgundy Red and a Crown—A Closer Look at Ingelheim’s Red Wine Queens
Short Lecture
The official count stands at 75 Red Wine Queens, but the roots of the most regal of all honorary titles in the city of Ingelheim go back much further. Gain new and surprising insights into the history of our wine queens. Drawing on interviews with eyewitnesses, archival research, and new sources, the talk will shed light on the evolution from the early days to the modern Red Wine Queen. The talk is an excerpt from the new publication “The Red Wine Festival in Ingelheim am Rhein—Living Cultural Heritage, Beloved Homeland,” which offers an in-depth look at the festival’s history in anticipation of its 80th anniversary in 2026.
