Susanne Rohn studied Protestant church music in Freiburg i.B. (A-exam) as well as organ and harpsichord. Since 1998, she has shaped a rich and demanding music program as the cantor of the Erlöserkirche Bad Homburg, featuring three valuable organs and two proficient choirs. She taught organ playing, conducting, and choir direction at various music colleges in Düsseldorf, Mainz, and Frankfurt. In 2023, she was appointed honorary professor at JGU Mainz.
She will present works from a time when the Geissel family built their organs. Alongside a composition by the composer Christian Erbach, born around 1570 in Gau-Algesheim, she will also present English virginal (harpsichord) music from the 16th and early 17th centuries from two famous music collections. A significant composer from the transitional period from the Renaissance to the Baroque, Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck, features on the program, whose compositions are often described by musicians as “difficult, very difficult to play.” Works by Frohberger, Muffat, and Johann Sebastian Bach will present classics of Baroque literature. A coherent program that suits the historical instrument excellently.
