Cultural Landscape in Changing Times - Vineyard Walk

Helmtrud Schäfer, the culture and wine ambassador, invites you on Wednesday,

1. July 2025, through the Gundheim vineyards. The approximately 2-hour

tour starts at 6 PM, Bahnhofstraße 17. The guide will begin by explaining the

settlement of the region and the land acquisition by the

Franconian lords.

Along the way, she will explain how viticulture developed in the village over

more than 1200 years. Guests will learn interesting facts about the origin and

initial naming of the vineyard names and their significance for the people

on the walk. Explanations of the wild herbs blooming along the wayside and

their effects on humans will make some “weeds” shine in a new light. At a

Trullo, guests will be greeted with a glass of wine, Rheinhessen gossip, and

a wonderful view over the Gundheim vineyard locations. In the distance, the

view wanders over the Upper Rhine Valley, the Upper Rhine Graben to the

Odenwald. The hike ends with another glass of wine. Good footwear is

recommended for the partially unpaved paths.
