Cultural SENSE Christmas Concert: "Messiah – The Messiah" by George Frideric Handel

The Christmas concert is the finale and at the same time one of the highlights of the successful event series Cultural SENSE Rhein-Selz 2026.

The Churpfälzische Hofcapelle, together with the St. Katharinen choir and renowned soloists, will perform Handel's Messiah. "A rare and unique musical delight awaits the guests," says Rudi Felgner, the head of the Tourism Service Center of the Verbandsgemeinde Rhein-Selz. The Churpfälzische Hofcapelle is a Baroque orchestra using historical instruments. The ensemble is dedicated to interpreting and performing chamber and orchestral music from the early 17th to 19th centuries with regard to the musical conditions of that time. Each member of the Churpfälzische Hofcapelle has specialized in the various playing techniques required to master the old instruments and contribute to a expressive and stylistically appropriate performance.

The St. Katharinen choir Oppenheim primarily focuses on the preparation of the major masses and oratorios of European music literature. Special care is taken with the choral sound, voice training, and thus the authentic overall sound of the sung material. The choir is conducted by Probsteikantor Ralf Bibiella. Since 1992, he has established a church music of international caliber in Oppenheim.
