Short film evening with Alessia Mandanici
We are pleased to have Alessia Mandanici with us this evening. Her short film Schwarzmoll was even shot in the VG Wörrstadt (Rheinhessen). Be curious and rediscover the locations.
Lentini & Schwarzmoll – Two short films by Alessia Mandanici
“A touching short film about dementia with sensitive staging” – this is what the press said about the 19-minute short film “Schwarzmoll” by Alessia Mandanici, which has already traveled the world at eleven film festivals since autumn 2024. In it, a seven-year-old girl sets out in search of evidence for the dementia-affected reality of her grandmother.
This also applies to the second short film of the evening, entitled “Lentini,” which was filmed in the namesake hometown of the filmmaker's father. There, a young woman travels for the first time since her childhood to her grandfather's funeral in Sicily, where she seeks the lost closeness to her Italian grandmother amid a world and relatives unfamiliar to her.
The director will be present for the film screening, showing “behind the scenes material” and answering questions from the audience in an open discussion afterward.
Alessia Mandanici is a freelance filmmaker of German-Italian descent, who completed her film studies at NYU Tisch School in New York City with a Master of Fine Arts focusing on screenwriting and directing. Her films have won awards and have been shown at Oscar-qualifying film festivals worldwide, including the Berlinale, Hofer Filmtagen, Max Ophüls Prize Film Festival, Austin Film Festival, and Woodstock Film Festival.
