Quo vadis, Latein?

In 2026, the Regional Cultural Management of Rheinhessen will once again present a theme year throughout Rheinhessen, this time focusing on the traces of the Romans in present-day Rheinhessen.

At the Museum am Strom, guests will rediscover the seemingly forgotten language in a new guise. For example, Roman wine jugs provide clues as to how cultural history and language have been closely connected for over 2000 years. This connection is also evident in a Roman milestone, the Bingen medical instruments, a document from Frederick Barbarossa, or the medieval education system famously represented by Hildegard of Bingen.

Many terms from the wine industry have their roots in the Latin language. This applies, for example, to wine, press, vineyard, must, winemaker, cellar, and sensory analysis. You know them all! "Culture" is also such a word that originates from the time of early Roman land cultivation.

Therefore: Carpe diem, start a visit to the museum!

Cost: 10.00 €/person plus museum admission
