How and why did the citizens of Alzey at the turn of the century discover antiquity for themselves?
The special exhibition at the Alzey Museum showcases spectacular, never-before-seen excavation finds and plans, travel souvenirs, and complete private collections from that era. It becomes clear how Alzey's Roman past was brought to light and how citizens of Alzey managed to present themselves as excavators and collectors. Those who wanted to be significant dug, collected, or at least quoted their ancient poets. Education indeed makes a difference – but what does that mean for education today?
The special exhibition will be on display at the Alzey Museum until the end of the year 2026.
Guided tours for school classes and children's groups can be booked at jutta.goettel-becker@alzey.de.
