Well-preserved ruin of a late Gothic pilgrimage church from 1519 with still complete outer walls and magnificent tracery windows. The location in the midst of nature, chosen by the Cistercians from Eberbach Monastery in the Rheingau for the Marian shrine, has already served as a cult site for over 3,000 years. During archaeological excavations in 2004, a funnel-shaped vault was discovered beneath the floor of the nave: a (very rare) flax drying facility that was incorporated into the dilapidated church in the late 18th century – a sort of monument within a monument. Even today, the Beller Church offers a very special sacred spatial experience in the open air.
